Essentials Cheat Sheet
Boita Bandana: Worship of Boats
Before the fairgrounds awaken, Bali Yatra begins with a deeply symbolic ritual. Boita Bandana, meaning the worship of boats, is performed at dawn on Kartika Purnima.
Devotees gather at river ghats and water bodies to float miniature boats made of paper, cork, or banana bark, each carrying a small lamp. This ritual honors the courage, resilience, and adventurous spirit of the Sadhabas of ancient Kalinga.
