Kapilash Temple
Perched at an elevation of about 2,239 feet atop the scenic Kapilash Hills, Kapilash Temple is one of Odisha's most sacred abodes of Lord Shiva. Popularly known as the "Second Kailash," the temple was built in 1246 CE by King Narasinghadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty and is dedicated to Lord Chandrasekhar Mahadev. Constructed in the traditional Kalinga style of architecture, the shrine is surrounded by dense forests, tranquil landscapes and smaller shrines that enhance its spiritual ambience. Revered by devotees and associated with Sage Kapila, the temple attracts thousands of pilgrims, especially during Mahashivaratri and the holy month of Shravan. Whether reached by climbing the 1,352 sacred steps or via the winding hill road, Kapilash offers a perfect blend of spirituality, heritage and natural beauty.
