Maniabandha Handloom Village

"Recognised as India’s Best Tourism Village (Craft Category) 2024, Maniabandha Handloom Village is one of Odisha’s prominent handloom destinations and a living repository of the state’s celebrated textile heritage. Nestled in the Badamba region of Kataka district, the village is renowned for its exquisite Odisha Ikat (Bandha) and Khandua Patta sarees, created using the intricate tie-and-dye technique perfected by generations of skilled weavers.

The textiles of Maniabandha are distinguished by their traditional and sacred motifs, including verses, lotus flowers, elephants and lions, reflecting Odisha’s rich cultural traditions. The village is also known for its unique practice of producing fine silk from naturally shed cocoons, representing a sustainable approach to its centuries-old weaving tradition.

Beyond its craftsmanship, Maniabandha is home to a harmonious blend of Buddhist and Hindu communities, adding a distinctive cultural dimension to the visitor experience. Travellers can interact with local weavers, observe the different stages of traditional weaving and explore authentic handwoven textiles.
