Where Wildlife Thrives
Discover the Heritage

Nandankanan Zoological Park

"Located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Nandankanan Zoological Park is far more than a zoo it is a pioneering wildlife destination set within a natural forest and alongside the serene Kanjia Lake. Established in 1960 and later designated a zoological park in 1979, it stands out as one of the few zoos globally where animals live in habitats that closely mirror the wild. Internationally recognised as a member of WAZA and famed as the “Mother Zoo” of white tigers, Nandankanan has played a crucial role in conservation, including the first successful captive breeding of melanistic (black) tigers in India.
For visitors, the experience is both immersive and dynamic from thrilling lion and tiger safaris to close encounters with diverse wildlife including elephants, reptiles and vibrant birdlife. The park’s botanical garden, reptile park, aquarium and lakefront setting add layers of exploration, while boating on Kanjia Lake offers a quieter, scenic contrast. Blending conservation with experience, Nandankanan remains one of India’s most engaging wildlife attractions, offering a meaningful connection with nature for travellers of all kinds."
