Odisha State Maritime Museum

"Located on the banks of the Mahanadi in Kataka, the Odisha State Maritime Museum brings alive the state’s rich maritime and riverine legacy in a setting rooted in history. Housed within the historic Jobra Workshop established in 1869 by Scottish engineer G.H. Faulkner after the devastating Famine (1866-1868) it was the only canal and navigation workshop in the region, serving the Bengal Presidency across Bengal, Bihar, and Odisha.
Today, the restored complex features multiple galleries showcasing ancient navigation techniques, shipbuilding traditions, inland water transport systems, and Odisha’s maritime links with Southeast Asia. Outdoor displays of anchors, cannons, and boat models, along with a popular aquarium, make it an engaging stop for history enthusiasts, students, and curious travellers exploring Kataka."
