Held on the sacred shores of Chandrabhaga Beach near Konark, Magha Mela is one of Odisha's most revered religious gatherings. Before sunrise on Magha Saptami, thousands of devotees take a holy dip in the sea, believing its waters possess healing powers, before offering prayers to the Sun God. The festival is deeply rooted in the legend of Sambha, the son of Lord Krishna, who is believed to have been afflicted with leprosy due to a curse. After years of penance at Chandrabhaga, the Sun God blessed him with a cure. Since then, devotees have gathered here every Magha Saptami to seek health, prosperity, and divine blessings from Surya.
